A whole class of illustrated business books have sprung up, mostly covering the creative or innovation space. The Design Thinking Playbook seeks to capture the graphical, creative and open ended aspects of design in the organization and presentation of its material. The idea is sound and there are other 'illustrated' books on this and other subjects that work, but this one did not work for me - hence the 3 star review. The book tries to take a design approach in explaining the design thinking approach by organizing itself around three personas. These personas attempt to bring the process to life. This is a great goal, but this book suffers in execution of the idea resulting in a muddled and wordy exposition of design thinking. It would have been better to provide a quick primer on the process at an overview level and then use the personas to go deep in terms of specific examples. This is why its a three star review. There are good things in the book, but they are hard to find.A playbook should offer a clear, concise and easy to reference resource for accomplishing a particular task. While it has value in the initial reading, a good playbook is something you come back to time and time again. This does not do this as the book has a tough time focusing on the design process from a practitioner perspective as it cannot find the right balance between the level of detail, the illustration of the process and the presentation of the tools.
The recently published Design Thinking Playbook from Wiley & Sons shows how a human centred design approach might be used in the digital transformation. Topics like AI, Blockchain, Big Data Analytics etc. are covered well. However, the playbook postulates a design thinking mindset beyond digital. In the end of the day we create critical experiences and functions for humans and the playbook show how to get there. I like this mindset very much and I will recommend the playbook to my peers. It is also great to use in education courses. Not just the consulting firm (Big4), we and in Marketing, Product Management and Start-up business should apply more design thinking to make a difference. The Design Thinking Playbook provides inspiration to various topics relevant in a digitized world
THE PRINT IS TOO SMALL TO READ--EVEN WITH MY GLASSES THAT GIVE ME 20/20 VISION! What a shame. It looks like good material but ridiculously small print in charts and diagrams makes it virtually impossible to gain anything of value from them. I will probably have to return it. Very disappointing!
Good book
Great book, fantastic layout
At a glance, I think it is an excellent book (also, considering a great print quality) . I am enrolling in a series of certificate courses at IDEOU, and think it is a great supplemental text for my study...
Great book! A good guide for design thinking.
Excellent book! It's certainly the best design thinking reading available on the market. Numerous visualizations, a mix of methods, anecdotes and deep insights into the spectrum of digital transformation. And finally, tactics, strategies and methods that open up towards Systems Thinking and Big Data Analytics. Many new concepts that one can use their daily work. I commend you for marketing this remarkable milestone in innovation and management reading.
