Amazon.com Review

When Dr. Seuss gets serious, you know it must be important. Published in 1971, and perhaps inspired by the "save our planet" mindset of the 1960s, The Lorax is an ecological warning that still rings true today amidst the dangers of clear-cutting, pollution, and disregard for the earth's environment. In The Lorax, we find what we've come to expect from the illustrious doctor: brilliantly whimsical rhymes, delightfully original creatures, and weirdly undulating illustrations. But here there is also something more--a powerful message that Seuss implores both adults and children to heed. The now remorseful Once-ler--our faceless, bodiless narrator--tells the story himself. Long ago this enterprising villain chances upon a place filled with wondrous Truffula Trees, Swomee-Swans, Brown Bar-ba- loots, and Humming-Fishes. Bewitched by the beauty of the Truffula Tree tufts, he greedily chops them down to produce and mass-market Thneeds. ("It's a shirt. It's a sock. It's a glove. It's a hat.") As the trees swiftly disappear and the denizens leave for greener pastures, the fuzzy yellow Lorax (who speaks for the trees "for the trees have no tongues") repeatedly warns the Once-ler, but his words of wisdom are for naught. Finally the Lorax extricates himself from the scorched earth (by the seat of his own furry pants), leaving only a rock engraved "UNLESS." Thus, with his own colorful version of a compelling morality play, Dr. Seuss teaches readers not to fool with Mother Nature. But as you might expect from Seuss, all hope is not lost--the Once-ler has saved a single Truffula Tree seed! Our fate now rests in the hands of a caring child, who becomes our last chance for a clean, green future. (Ages 4 to 8)

Another great book for children and adults alike.

This book is not just a children's book but so much more! Every family should have this as a staple in their home. It is so relevant to the world today that it is almost inconceivable that it was written in 1971, 46 years ago. The environmental issues alone are a must read for everyone. Get it for a very young child so they can begin to learn responsibility now for the world we live in.

May 11, 2017Dear Reader,In our opinion, we think you should read “The Lorax”.It has really fun rhymes. One example of this is when he wrote “nail and sail”. He even had characters called Barbaloots who were in Barbaloot Suits. It teaches you an important lesson. Specifically, it teaches us to not cut down many trees. That’s why you should read “The Lorax” to your class or kids. Sincerely,Mrs. West’s 2nd Grade Superhero Class

Avid Dr. Seuss reader and yet I have never heard of this book. I don't understand why it isn't more popular. Maybe in today's hyper security focused environment, parents steer away from books with guns. Maybe people just don't want to advocate for the great kindness and patience which should be shown to guests and more importantly the lesson that even guests might take advantage and shouldn't be allowed too. I do think this is a good book to encourage child to not allow people to just walk all over them. Everyone and everything has its limits. The illustrations are wonderfully drawn and the story line is enthralling.

My daughter first saw the movie, which I always watch with her and we both love it. This was her Christmas gift. The book does not talk about the Thneedville at all. This could confuse a kid. The book is written in rhymes and actually helped me better understand the movie. Overall, good book, we ready it often.

This is a great book. The actual size of the book is a little larger than other Dr. Seuss book I have but I like the larger size. This is a great story with a positive message. The illustrations are colorful and fun, and help to keep my kids engaged. The book is a little long so I have a hard time keeping my youngest child's attention during the whole story, but our toddler loves it! I would definitely recommend this book to all families with children at home. This book would also make a great gift for a child.

Basically, there is nothing more that you need to know than this book remains a classic that is especially needed right now. The fact it is printed with recycled material is pretty great as well. I read this book to my 4yo and he brings many questions.

What a wonderful book. Purchased for a baby shower as cherished/favorite books were requested for the baby in lieu of cards. My note inside was "Sweet Baby you are lucky to be born to a Mama who WILL teach you to speak for the trees and we need more people like that in the world". My boyfriend who is almost 50 had never heard this book so before I gave it as a gift I made him sit down and read it to him......ha ha

How else can we teach our youngest children to be stewards of this place? The LORAX is a wonderful book to share with the youngest of audiences to understand the restoration, preservation and protecting our lands needs to be done.
