Review
"Simply brilliant, rocks show us the true meaning of Christmas."--Richard Paul Evans, #1 New York Times bestselling authorWho would think that a book about rocks can gracefully tell the greatest story ever told? And who could imagine that little rocks, cleverly organized, could evoke tender and deep feelings of love and remembrance? The creative genius of author and rock-artist Patti Rokus is a vibrant reminder that a picture is worth a thousand words. This small opus belongs in all homes! --Mike Murray, Apple and Microsoft PioneerIt comes as no surprise to me that every single review of this lovely book is five stars. What a beautiful, creative, new way to tell the old story! A Savior Is Born: Rocks Tell the Story of Christmas deserves a place on every child's bookshelf and in every parent's heart. A VERY worthy five stars. --Glenys Nellist, children's books best selling authorIf a picture is worth a thousand words, then surely Patti Rokus'rock-art-inspirational-gift-book says far, far more. A Savior is Born, RocksTell the Story of Christmas must be seen to be believed. How this artist findseveryday rocks that literally convey emotions and portray scriptures, is beyondme. And then with a few added words, she leads the reader through the entireChristmas story, photo by photo, page by page, inspirational phrase byinspirational phrase and rock by rock. A cross-generational book thatgrandparents can read to their grands, parents to their kids and yet isbeautiful enough to be a coffee table showpiece, or a treasured gift from oneadult to another, one child to another. When my grands read it, they werecaptivated by the astounding concept that rocks, indeed, tell stories. And themessage of Jesus' birth came through loud and clear. Minutes after they weredone with the book, they excitedly ran outside to collect their OWN rocks totell their OWN stories of God's love. --Ronna Snyder, Author of Hot Flashesfrom HeavenWithoutan eternal perspective, ordinary things may never change, like rocks. But whenwe are given the creative insight of someone who sees beyond the obvious, suchas Patti Rokus in the wonderful book, A Savior is Born, we train our minds tosee beyond the surface, and unfold miracles that are hidden until we becomeperceptive to the magnificence of God's creations. --Ardith G. Kapp, YoungWomen's President of millions of Christian teenagers, and author of over 16well-loved books.

From the Author
As I hiked through the forest and streams of Northwestern Montana, Idaho, and Washington during a solo camping trip, each one of these rocks called out to me. I couldn't resist holding each one, and soon my pockets were heavy with treasures. I didn't know why I felt so compelled to take them home, but I did feel like a kid again, reveling in the beauty of the simplest of things. Finishing out my trip with a visit to Mom's house, free from the regular routine of life, I indulged in a morning of no plans, no expectations, and quiet, childlike wonder as I dumped out my bucket of random rocks on Mom's back porch, and absent-mindedly pushed them around. One rock looked distinctly like someone kneeling, so I put a round rock above it as a head, and saw Mary bowing before an angel. Surprised by this obvious likeness, I wondered what an angel would look like as an ordinary rock, and there in the pile it emerged. With six simple rocks, a miracle shined through. I ran upstairs to find Mom, and show her my discovery. We spent the morning together pushing rocks around until the entire Christmas story was found in that one bucket of rocks.  I wondered if each rock was designed millions of years ago for this very moment--to represent Mary or Joseph, an angel, or even our Savior. Jesus himself told the Pharisees that if his disciples "should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out," (Luke 19:40) to testify of him. And that is what they do in this book, and in all of nature.Could it be that we're like that, too--designed for significance that we cannot begin to imagine, and that will inevitably be so; not by our own design, but by a power much greater and more loving than we presently comprehend?  Nature and all her beauty, diversity, and wonder will always be an important source of my connection to God. I start feeling small and disconnected when I'm too long from a walk in the woods. There is magic in the trees that cannot be explained and is reserved only for the soul who steps foot and heart onto her ground. Anyone can share in the abundance of the outdoors and be filled up with the peace and contentment of becoming part of her grandeur. Let us bring our children to their spiritual roots and reintroduce them to their connection to all things--especially to God. We might be surprised what they will teach us when they discover that all things testify of Jesus Christ, and why.

First of all, this hardbound book is beautifully made. The jacket cover is embossed using a rich copper color for the title against a black background. Your eyes are initially drawn to the sheen of the letters and each rock character on the cover is also embossed, making them look so realistic, they steal your attention while almost making you believe you can pick them up right off the page. The story is told with few words, but it's the rock art that has you lingering over every page as you explore each clever detail. When my children were young, they loved to collect rocks and these days my grandchildren enjoy doing the same, yet they never quite know what to do with them. At the beginning of December I plan to take the grandkids for a stroll with buckets in hand to collect rocks, then spend the rest of the afternoon recreating these beautiful scenes with them at the kitchen table while we talk about the nativity story together. The book and the rocks will be theirs to enjoy throughout the Christmas season, enhancing the significance of the Savior's birth to them personally as they retell the story while building their own nativity over and over again. I believe it will be a delightful & much anticipated new Christmas tradition.
When artists find their true voice, their work becomes infectious. The creative gift of rock art came to Patti authentically, and she applies it to glorify its Source. Her pictures are so sophisticated yet accessible, and the stories so simple yet inspiring that you will want to share her books with loved ones of all ages, interests, and religions. This is Christian art that far transcends the genre.
Patti Rokus has created a Christmas masterpiece with her gift of imagination. This is not just a book about the Christ story told in rocks, but will fire up the imaginations of families too, and this effect will last long after the Christmas season is over. I can see children leading their parents to National parks to gather rocks and other materials to create their own stories, and in the process, marvel over the magnificent creations of God. As they work with the materials they find, they will discover their own passion for being in nature as they experience the beauty surrounding them. This beautiful book will be an instant classic in any home. Run, don't walk, and experience this incredible work for yourself!!!!
I was so excited when I saw the Amazon Box had arrived with my books! I love this beautiful book about the Christmas story! Sweet and simple, it is appropriate for all ages. I ordered enough for everyone in my family. I can hardly wait to read it with my grandchildren and begin our own collection of rocks.
Love the creativity and message of this book! I love to give new books to family and friends each Christmas and this was my go to for 2018!!
My children from teens down to littles enjoy this story of the nativity told through rock pictures. We love hiking and collecting rocks so it is especially cool for us to see how creative Patti Rokus has been in creating such an uplifting resource for families and to display God's creations in a unique way. Plus, we bought several books to give to friends and family. The emphasis of the book is on the pictures but there is simple wording from the Bible to accompany the images. Look forward to the authors upcoming Easter Rocks Tell Stories Book.
