More clearly describes the difference between and use of supportive and expressive therapy. Despite Kohut and Kernberg's argument regarding the two approaches, the integration, as appropriate, is most helpful. I often use one approach as a method of processing an intervention using the other approach. Luborksy applies these principles with an interpersonal focus.
This book is a good resource for understanding the basics of psychodynamic therapies (in the book this is called psychoanalytically oriented therapies) and an excellent resource for understanding the specific psychodynamic therapy of Supportive Expressive Therapy.
I enjoy and practice CCRT. Luborsky is a master and this book is helpful in understanding his theory and treatment.
